US History

Objectives:

  • Summarize Vietnam’s history as a French colony and its struggle for Independence
  • Examine how the United States became involved in the Vietnam conflict
  • Describe the expansion of U.S. military involvement under President Johnson
  • Identify how America became involved in Vietnam, the methods of jungle warfare and its effect on soldiers fighting in Vietnam as well as themes common with fighting in Vietnam.
  • Explain the draft policies that led to the Vietnam War becoming a working-class war.
  • Trace the roots of opposition to the war and draw conclusions as to the ethical questions surrounding such a policy in times of war.
  • Analyze various secondary sources to understand the reasons for entering the war in Vietnam.

Bell Ringer:

If your name is on the post-it on two big tables…  you need to sit there.  All other students will sit at other seats where they want.

Activities:

  1. Small Group Work will focus on 2 assessments
  2. Ind Choice assign due 4/9 1st and 6th hours or 4/10 7th hour:
    • To score a 2: #7 VOC Ch 22, #8 GR LBJ Policy,  #9 VOC Ch 22 Quiz or #10 GV : Vietnam Tactics 
    • To score a 3:  GR Vietnam Beginnings and End
    • To score a 4:  What’s Up Doc? Johnson and Vietnam 

IB History of the Americas

Objectives:

  • Identify and explain the argument between Imperialists and Anti-Imperialists at the turn of the 20th century.
  • Analyze the argument over imperialism in terms of Roosevelt’s Panama Canal.

Activities:

  1. Discuss American Imperialism
  2. Watch Panama Canal Video/Reading
  3. Take Foreign Policy Quiz by next class
