Objectives:

  • Describe the unique interactions between European colonists and Native and the social consequences of those interactions.
  • Identify the settlements of Jamestown and St. Augustine.
  • Compare and contrast the English and Spanish settlements in America.
  • Analyze the differences between colonies in the Americas by synthesizing the accounts of early settlers in Jamestown and St. Augustine.

  • Create a creative presentation that details the account of their summer.
  • Analyze the presentations of students to evaluate what would be the most accurate account of the summer break.

IB History of the Americas p. 5

Objectives:

  • Identify the causes for independence in the British colonies of what would become the US.
  • Analyze the social, economic and political reasons behind independence in the US.

Bell Ringer:

Review Notes from previous day and come up with a clear statement of what causes independence

Activities:

  1. Review ideas of Causes of Ind
  2. Introduce Taxation Timeline assignment
  3. Due end of class Friday
  4. HW:  Read Ch 1 from Ind Move Text by next Friday

Objectives:

  • Create a chart that analyzes the effects of exploration on the Native and African societies of the 15th centuries.
  • Identify terms related to early European civilization and exploration.
  • Identify terms related to Spanish colonization of the New World.
  • Describe some of the social consequences of their presence in the New World as the result of intentions.

  1. Review Form Assign due 9/11 or 9/12:
    • To score a 2:  #1 VOC Ch 2 Sec 1-3 and #2 VOC Ch 2 Quiz
    • To score a 3:  GR:  Europe and the Colonies.
    • To score a 4:  Cause and Effect Euro/Native/W African Essay
  2. Meet with students and discuss choices/small groups
