Objectives:

  • Explain and justify the events behind the first shots fired in the Civil War at Ft. Sumter.
  • Discuss the reasons for the North and South leader’s shortsightedness about the war.
  • Identify the terms Ft. Sumter, Anaconda Plan, Iron Clad, Antietam and Shiloh.
  • Explain Lincoln’s motives for issuing the Emancipation Proclamation and the documents’ effects.
  • Examine a primary resource and interpret the complex message behind a seemingly straightforward event.
  • Identify the significance of the 54thRegiment and Robert Shaw and analyze its to explain whether there was “Glory” in their actions.
  • Explain the effects of the Civil War on the Southern Region of U.S.

IB 20th Century World 

Objectives:

  • Analyze the strategies and tactics of the French and FLN during the course of the Algerian War.
  • Apply ideas of the strategies and tactics of the Algerian War to evaluate effectiveness of the Morice Line, French technology, the Battle of Algiers and terror on the outcome of the war.

Access the FLN vs. French Strategies/Tactics/Operations Chart from Schoology.

Activities:

  1. Review Questions from Chart
  2. One half of room completes for FLN/other French p. 28-34 Smith text
  3. Pair up With Opposites
  4. Complete FLN vs. French Reflection by end of class
