Objectives:

  • Understand what empathy means and evaluate McNamara’s claims for its value and use as a foreign policy tool.
  • Analyze and interpret the most important documents of the missile crisis to gain insight into the policy choices facing U.S. and Soviet leaders.
  • Delineate the values surrounding international efforts to regulate war and analyze the role of bombing in modern warfare.
  • Evaluate the role of ethics and proportionality in warfare and explore a framework for analyzing political violence and war.
  • Investigate the role the film’s structure and form play in its meaning by considering the choices the director made with respect to the film’s genre—history or memoir?

Bell Ringer:

Sit in 5 Assigned Groups

Activities:

  1. Work on Fog of War Stations
  2. 3 rotations/20 min each
  3. Submit individual notes at end of each cycle
