Objectives:

  • Explain the rise of dictators, the beginnings of WWII and American response.
  • Identify and analyze the rise of dictatorships and authoritarian regimes that emerged in Europe and Asia during the 1930’s.
  • Analyze American isolationism during the 1930s and its effect on world affairs.

IB 20th Century World p. 4

Objectives:

  • Analyze the strategies and tactics of the French and FLN during the course of the Algerian War.
  • Apply ideas of the strategies and tactics of the Algerian War to evaluate effectiveness of the Morice Line, French technology, the Battle of Algiers and terror on the outcome of the war.

Bell Ringer:

Open the FLN vs. French Chart in Schoology

Activities:

  1. Divide class into 2 sides
  2. Use Pages 28-34 in “Causes” Text to fill out for FLN or French
  3. Partner up with someone from other side and complete chart
  4. Complete the FLN vs. French Reflection Discussion by Friday

  • Explain the rise of dictators, the beginnings of WWII and American response.
  • Identify and analyze the events of the Holocaust and its lasting effects.
  • Analyze American involvement in WWII from 1939-1941.

Objectives:

  • Identify how America became involved in Vietnam, the methods of jungle warfare and its effect on soldiers fighting in Vietnam as well as themes common with fighting in Vietnam.
  • Explain the draft policies that led to the Vietnam War becoming a working-class war.
  • Trace the roots of opposition to the war and draw conclusions as to the ethical questions surrounding such a policy in times of war.
  • Analyze various secondary sources to understand the reasons for entering the war in Vietnam.
